Abstract

Game theory, and particularly the development and use of computational and algorithmic methods for analysing strategic interaction, is a significant and long-lived point of contact between computing scientists and economists. In this talk, I will survey my own use of computational approaches as a researcher applying game theory principally to questions arising in economics. In some areas, computation has played an important and successful role, such as in the application of quantal response equilibrium as a structural model for estimation in behavioural game theory. I will also look forward to the opportunities for a richer synthesis between the disciplines offered by the modern ecosystem of scientific computing tools, including our plans for the modernisation and development of the Gambit software package (http://gambit-project.org).
